LEGACY OF GREER GARDENS
Greer Gardens continues its tradition of enhancing the landscape in living color. Perennials, trees, shrubs and a variety of rhododendrons have been thoughtfully integrated into the development of The Springs at Greer Gardens.
To facilitate the retirement of owners Harold and Nancy Greer, the 14-acre nursery site was sold to another Oregon-based company, The Springs Living. The Springs at Greer Gardens is a 216-unit retirement community that provides a continuum of care for seniors, including independent and assisted living, as well as memory care. From the name to the landscaping to the custom home built specially for the Greers, The Springs at Greer Gardens, now burgeoning on this lush nursery property, highlights and honors Harold’s passion for ornamental plants and especially rhododendrons.
Rare and unusual rhododendrons continue to thrive throughout the property, and are featured in a tribute garden where residents and visitors can learn about some of the crosses that Harold introduced during his rich and accomplished career such as ‘Trude Webster‘, ‘Black Magic‘, ‘Cheyenne‘, ‘Everything Nice‘, and ‘Hallelujah‘. The Springs at Greer Gardens also has incorporated a greenhouse, interpretative areas and lovely walking paths for the residents and staff to enjoy. Best of all, Harold and Nancy Greer still call the nursery property “home” and enjoy retirement among the rhododendrons.
Harold says he is able to have the best of both worlds – retirement and living on the property he nurtured and still loves - continuing to live with the “Rhodies” at a more relaxed pace with his wife and family.
