Last month, The Springs at Tanasbourne hosted the first in a series of four Artist Receptions and Exhibits in partnership with the Geezer Gallery. Throughout the year, we will feature different Master Level Artists accompanied with music, hors d’oeuvres, wine and art appreciators.
Two artists were featured; Stephen Graham, a master illustrator, and Farooq Hassan, an abstract painter. Hassan shared his story of transplanting himself and his family to the United States and how his outward expression of art reflects his life’s journey. The residents were captivated and asked questions well past the expected time allowed. What was life like before and what is it like now? What inspires you and what keeps you going through the difficult times?

Farooq Hassan was a national treasure in his homeland of Iraq. He fled the war in 2010, leaving behind a lifetime of artwork and his fame. Listen to Farooq Hassan recount his story on OPB.
The artwork of Farooq Hassan and Stephen Grahams will remain featured at The Springs at Tanasbourne through mid-June. When you come, please visit the art gallery on our second floor mezzanine.
The Geezer Gallery is a nonprofit gallery that promotes the art of master level artists over the age of sixty-five. The art is meant to spark conversation and new ways of thinking about art and what it means to be an aging or “older” person in today’s world.
